This week’s phrase from NHK’S Trad Japan program of March 30th, “Sushi”

  • For people in Japan, rice and fish are two of the primary pillars of the diet. Served as sushi, they have long been a favourite delicacy.

日本人にとって、米と魚は食事の基本です。この2つの食材は、すし料理として出され、古くから愛されてきたごちそうです。

解説: long を完了形 have been の間に入れると「古くから~であった」「長い間~であった」という意味になります。長い歴史を持つ物などを説明する場合に有用です。
