Elbow – Mirror Ball ★

I plant the kind of kiss
that wouldn’t wake a baby
on the self-same face
that wouldn’t let me sleep;
and the street is singing with my feet,
and the dawn gives me a shadow I know to be taller.

All down to you, dear.
Everything has changed.

My sorry name
has made it to graffiti.
I was looking for
someone to complete me.

Not anymore, dear;
everything has changed.

When we make the moon our mirror ball
the street’s an empty stage;
the city sirens – violins.
Everything has changed.

So lift off love.
(down to you, dear)
Lift off love.
(down to you, dear)

We took the town to town last night.
We kissed like we invented it!
And now I know what every step is for:
to lead me to your door.

Know that while you sleep,
everything has changed.

We made the moon our mirror ball.
The street’s an empty stage;
the city sirens – violins.
Everything has changed.
Everything has changed.
Everything has changed.

Down to you, dear/So lift off love
Down to you, dear/ lift off love
Down to you, dear/ lift off love
Down to you, dear/ lift off love
Down to you, dear/ lift off love
Down to you, dear/ lift off love
Down to you, dear/ lift off love
Down to you, dear…

Better Together ★

There's no combination of words
I could put on the back of a postcard,
No song that I could sing
But I can try for your heart,
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things,
Like a shoebox of photographs,
With sepiatone loving,
Love is the answer
At least for most of the questions in my heart ,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,
And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together
MMM, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, we'll look at the stars when we're together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together
And all of these moments
Just might find their way into my dreams tonight
But I know that they'll be gone,
When the morning light sings
And brings new things,
But tomorrow night you see
That they'll be gone too,
Too many things I have to do,
But if all of these dreams might find their way
Into my day to day scene
I'll be under the impression,
I was somewhere in-between
With only two,
Just me and you
Not so many things we got to do,
Or places we got to be
We'll sit beneath the mango tree now
Yeah, it's always better when we're together
MMM, We're somewhere in-between together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together
MmMMmm MmMMm MmMMm
I believe in memories
They look so, so pretty when I sleep
Hey now, and when, and when I wake up,
You look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time,
And there is no, no song I could sing
And there is no combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing,
We're better together

Jack Johnson – Rodeo Clowns

sweeping the floors, open up the doors, yeah,
turn on the lights, getting ready for tonight
nobody’s romancing because it’s too early for dancing
but here comes the music.

bright lights flashing to cover up your lack of soul
many people, so many problems, so many reasons
to buy another round, drink it down
just another night on the town
with the big man, money man, better than the other man
he got the plan with the million dollar give a damn
when nobody understands he’ll become a smaller man
the bright lights keep flashing, the women keep on dancing
with the clowns, yeah, yeah, yeah
they pick me up when i’m down, yeah, yeah,
the rodeo clowns, yeah, yeah, yeah,
they pick me up when i’m down

the disco ball spinning, all the music and the women
the shots of tequila, they’ll say that they need ya,
but what they really need is just a little room to breath
teeny bopping disco queen, she barely understands
her dreams of bellybutton rings and other kinds of things
symbolic of change but the thing that is strange
is that the changes occurred, and now she’s just a part of the herd, yeah, yeah, yeah
and i thought that you heard, yeah, yeah, the changes occurred, yeah, yeah, yeah
just a part of the herd

lights out, shut down, late night, wet ground
you walk by look at him, but he can’t look at you, yeah,
you might feel pity but he only feels the ground
you understand moods but he only knows let down
by the corner there’s another one
reaching out a hand, coming from a broken man, well,
you try to live but he’s done trying
not dead, but definitely dying
with the rest of the clowns, yeah, yeah,
(Humming) with the rest of the clowns

sweeping the floors, open up the doors
turn on the lights, getting ready for tonight
nobody’s romancing because it’s too early for dancing
but here comes the music

Irish Trad – Dervish

The folk music of Ireland (also known as Irish Trad) is the generic term for music that has been created in various genres on the entire island of Ireland, North and South of the Border. Dervish is a traditional Irish music group from County SligoIreland, formed in 1989 by Liam Kelly, Shane Mitchell, Martin McGinley, Brian McDonagh and Michael Holmes. The band was originally formed to record an album of local music which was later released as “The Boys of Sligo”. They later formed Dervish.

Internet Radio ★★

A fun way to improve your listening ability is to listen to American radio stations. In the past the only way to do this was to subscribe to Yusen, but thanks to the Internet, many radio stations stream their programs on-line. Here is one of my favorites.:

Hawaiian 105 KINE

Just click the play button and after a few seconds, the music should start. Every twenty minutes or so there are some commercials and information about what’s going on around Oahu.

Aol Radio

Aol Radio offers more than 350 Sports, News, Music, and Talk stations all just a click away.

Live365.com

Over 6000 Internet radio stations run by real people.

Last.fm

One of the best sites around for exploring music. Type in the name of a band you like and Last.fm will introduce other bands you might like.

Nat King Cole – The Christmas Song

The Christmas Song

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping on your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir,
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe,
Help to make the season bright.
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow,
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

They know that Santa’s on his way;
He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh.
And every mother’s child is going to spy,
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.

And so I’m offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although its been said many times, many ways,
A very Merry Christmas to you
